Job opportunity: Development officer, fundraising (student)

The PSO is seeking an organized, analytical and conscientious candidate with good communication skills to assist with fundraising, marketing and administration under the direction of the General Manager.

This is a full-time summer student position lasting 14 weeks with a start date between May 6th and May 27th , at a pay rate of $17/h.

The successful candidate will work from our downtown Peterborough office with the option to work remotely some of the time, depending on work circumstances.

The Fundraising Development Officer’s duties will include:

Grant and Funding Administration:

  • Support the fundraising team in managing relationships with funding organizations, sponsors and donors

  • Research and initiate contacts with potential advertisers

  • Assist with the logistics and coordination of fundraising and community events and concerts

  • Compile and analyze data, and prepare reports and lists related to donors, members and audiences

  • Assist in donor communications, acknowledgment, and relationship management

  • Contribute to the development of fundraising materials and campaigns

  • Assist in researching, planning and preparing grant applications and reports for special projects and performances

Administrative Support:

  • Provide administrative support for the orchestra such as correspondence, reporting obligations, file management and financial documentation

  • Assist with development of strategic plan including coordinating community consultation, including logistics of consultation and collecting and compiling results

Communications:

  • Assist with copywriting and coordination of media products such as social media, press releases, and website content

  • Assist with distributing marketing materials locally

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a secondary, or post-secondary institution or within six months of graduation and have reached the age of 15 upon commencement of employment. Proof of student enrolment must be provided.

  • Students must be residents of Ontario during the period of employment.

  • Students must be eligible to work in Canada and have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

  • Students should be living in Ontario at the time they start work.

Fundraising committee member

We are looking for volunteers to sit on our fundraising committee and help us to partner with corporate and foundation donors and sponsors who want to help support the arts in Peterborough. This role may involve some or all of the following activities:

  • Helping to research, design and develop sponsorship opportunities

  • Contacting local businesses to discuss sponsorship and advertising opportunities with business owners and develop relationships with businesses for mutual benefit

  • Helping to plan, implement and track sponsorship benefits for businesses

  • Gathering and analyzing data to help us communicate the benefits of supporting the orchestra

  • Researching private foundation opportunities and preparing and sending information packages for foundations

  • Participating in short (half-hour) meetings, usually via video call, approximately weekly during summer and less often later in the year

The time commitment is flexible depending on your availability. There will be more to do during summer, to prepare for the upcoming season, and then less during the remainder of the year.

Experience with fundraising is welcome, but not required. Good interpersonal skills are important, and having contacts in the business community is an asset.
